Manitoba Enhances Small Business Venture Capital Tax Credit to Boost Startup Investment
News Summary
The Government of Manitoba has announced an $8-million increase in its Small Business Venture Capital Tax Credit, raising the cap from $22 million to $30 million. This initiative aims to stimulate private investment and accelerate the growth of the province’s startup sector. The changes, announced by Innovation and New Technology Minister Mike Moroz, are designed to coincide with increasing investment activities in Manitoba, which saw a significant rise to $127 million in 2025. The tax credit offers investors in Manitoba-based small businesses a non-refundable provincial tax credit of up to 45 percent. Additional revisions include lowering the minimum investment threshold from $10,000 to $5,000 and recognizing simple agreements for future equity (SAFEs) as eligible investments. These measures are expected to attract more private investment into Manitoba startups and growing companies, fostering further economic development in the region.
