News Summary

The Vancouver Art Gallery is progressing with a Request for Proposal (RFP) to select Canadian-based architecture firms to design its new building. This decision follows the termination of a previous design contract with Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron due to escalating costs, which rose from $400 million to $600 million. The gallery’s board of trustees approved the RFP on January 22, 2025, aiming to create a building that is both emblematic of Canada’s artistic talent and fiscally responsible. The project has already raised over $350 million in funding, with the initial pre-construction phase completed.
