Valar Atomics Raises $19M to Develop Small Modular Nuclear Reactors
News Summary
Valar Atomics, a startup specializing in small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), has successfully raised $19 million in seed funding to develop its first test reactor. The funding round was led by Riot Ventures, along with AlleyCorp, Initialized Capital, Day One Ventures, and Steel Atlas. The company’s innovative approach focuses on creating ‘gigasites’ to mass-produce SMRs, aiming to reduce costs associated with traditional nuclear reactor constructions. Valar’s reactors utilize helium-cooled, high-temperature gas technology capable of reaching 900°C, enabling efficient hydrogen production and the creation of low-carbon synthetic fuels. The startup has secured a contract with the Philippines Nuclear Research Institute to build a test reactor and two full-scale reactors. Valar Atomics is led by co-founder and CEO Isaiah Taylor, with a team of experts from Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation.
