UPEI to Open State-of-the-Art Medical School in 2025
News Summary
The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is set to open a cutting-edge Faculty of Medicine and Interprofessional Health in 2025, initially operating as a remote campus of Memorial University’s Doctor of Medicine program. This new medical school aims to address the shortage of family doctors and nurse practitioners in Prince Edward Island, where over 38,000 residents are on an orphan patient registry. The facility, located on UPEI’s Charlottetown campus, will feature advanced medical technologies, including the Anatomage Table, a 3D medical visualization tool, and an immersive simulation room. It will also host 16 simulated clinic rooms and a SimRig mobile ambulance trainer to provide comprehensive training for medical and paramedical students. UPEI has recruited 99 doctors as faculty to support this initiative, which is part of the university’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare education and service delivery in the region.
