Toronto Launches Advanced 7T MRI Facility for Clinical Research
News Summary
Toronto’s academic health research community has inaugurated a 7-Tesla MRI system at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. This facility, part of a $30 million investment, is one of only three in Canada dedicated to clinical research. The collaboration involves seven Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) institutions and the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine. The new MRI system offers ultra-high-resolution imaging, enhancing research capabilities in neuroscience and beyond. It is expected to significantly improve the diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders by allowing earlier detection of conditions like cancerous tumors. The initiative is supported by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Research Fund.
