Canada

News Summary

The Government of Saskatchewan, through SaskPower, has committed to investing $6.3 million over six years to establish four new nuclear research chairs at post-secondary institutions in the province. This investment aims to support nuclear science and the deployment of nuclear energy generation in Saskatchewan. The chairs will be a part of partnerships with the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE) and the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation. Of the total funding, $3.3 million will be used to join UNENE and establish two nuclear research chairs at the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. The remaining $3 million will be allocated to the Fedoruk Centre to establish two additional chairs at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the First Nations University of Canada. These chairs will collaborate to develop nuclear-focused curriculums, support the delivery of graduate degrees in nuclear science and engineering, and conduct research in nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, and materials science.
