News Summary

SandboxAQ, a startup with origins at Alphabet, is working to address vulnerabilities in GPS systems by integrating artificial intelligence with magnetic navigation. Their technology, AQNav, utilizes quantum magnetometers to detect Earth’s magnetic field changes, offering an alternative to traditional GPS by reading unique magnetic fingerprints in the Earth’s crust. This system has been successfully tested by the US Air Force, Boeing, and Airbus across various aircraft types since May 2023. AQNav aims to enhance navigation safety and reliability, particularly in environments where GPS signals are prone to interference.
