Pumphouse in Winnipeg Recognized as MCHAP Finalist
News Summary
The Pumphouse, a mixed-use property in Winnipeg’s Exchange District, has been named a finalist in the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP), recognizing its innovative design, social impact, and architectural excellence. Designed by 5468796 Architecture Inc., the project redeveloped the historic James Avenue Pumping Station, originally built in 1906, into a 119,000-square-foot complex. The development includes flexible office spaces and two residential apartment blocks while preserving the station’s original machinery and public access to the site. This recognition marks the eighth architectural award for the Pumphouse and the third recognition for 5468796 Architecture by MCHAP. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Chicago on May 5.
