Photonic’s Breakthrough in Quantum Computing Error Correction
News Summary
Vancouver-based quantum startup Photonic has announced a significant breakthrough in quantum error correction through a new family of Quantum Low-Density Parity Check (QLDPC) codes, called SHYPS (Subsystem Hypergraph Product Simplex). This innovation allows quantum operations to be performed with significantly fewer physical qubits, potentially reducing requirements by up to 20 times compared to traditional methods. This advancement accelerates the timeline for practical quantum computing and reduces the overhead in scalability. Photonic’s Entanglement First™ architecture provides the necessary connectivity for implementing these codes, enabling their deployment within and between quantum modules. Founded in 2016 by Stephanie Simmons and Michael Thewalt, Photonic has raised $137 million CAD with strategic partners, including Microsoft. This development places Photonic at the forefront of the global race in quantum computing, marking another stride for Canadian quantum companies.
