Ontario’s Investment in Convertus Group’s York Biofuel Facility
News Summary
The Ontario government has announced a $2 million investment in the Convertus Group’s new $165 million biofuel facility in York Region. This facility, currently under construction in East Gwillimbury, is part of the government’s Regional Development Program, specifically the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) stream. The facility aims to process up to 200,000 tonnes of organic waste from the region’s green bin program annually, converting it into certified fertilizers and renewable natural gas. It is the first of its kind in Canada to use CO2 liquefaction technology, which captures emissions and converts them into food-grade liquid CO2. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create 52 jobs in the region.
