Ontario Tech University students have collaborated with Lakeridge Health and the Brilliant Catalyst, Ontario Tech’s entrepreneurship and innovation hub, to propose innovative solutions for healthcare challenges using artificial intelligence and technology. The collaboration was part of the Catalyst Challenge, an event organized by the Partnership for Advanced Technology in Health Care (PATH), which aims to improve patient outcomes and healthcare sustainability. The event saw interdisciplinary student teams developing innovative ideas to address pressing healthcare issues. The top nine teams presented their solutions at the January 31 challenge finale, with the three winning teams gaining the opportunity to bring their ideas to life at the Brilliant Catalyst’s Business Incubator. The winning solutions included Axis, an AI-powered physiotherapy tool; MedRoute, a tool to reduce emergency department congestion; and NavConnect, a hospital navigation app. All participants received an honorarium through the Experience Ventures program, powered by the University of Calgary’s Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking and funded by the Canadian government.
