News Summary

NodeBB, a leading forum software provider, has integrated with the fediverse, an open social web, enhancing decentralized social networking. Unlike centralized social media, the fediverse includes platforms like Mastodon and Pixelfed, powered by the ActivityPub protocol. NodeBB’s co-founder, Julian Lam, initiated this integration to connect forums in a decentralized manner. Funding from the NLNet Foundation accelerated this development, allowing new NodeBB forums to automatically federate with the open social web. This integration is a core feature in NodeBB’s v4 release, setting it apart from competitors by not relying on plugins. This move positions NodeBB as a significant player in the decentralized web movement.
