NGen Invests $108 Million in Canadian Sustainable Manufacturing Technology
News Summary
Next Gen Manufacturing Canada (NGen) has announced a significant investment of $108 million CAD to advance sustainable manufacturing technology in Canada. Of this total, NGen, a federally-backed organization, has contributed $37 million, while the remaining $71 million comes from industry contributions. This funding is set to support 32 companies working on 13 projects, including initiatives in carbon capture, AI energy management, sustainable automotive manufacturing, and automated graphene production. Calgary-based Carbon Upcycling, for example, is receiving up to $10 million for its sustainable cement project, which includes building a carbon capture facility at Ash Grove’s Mississauga plant. These projects aim to enhance Canada’s global competitiveness and support climate goals, while also improving the productivity of manufacturers. NGen’s investment strategy also extends to deep tech, with recent investments in EV, quantum, and space manufacturing initiatives.
