Nfinite Secures $4.6 Million to Scale Paper Packaging Technology
News Summary
Nfinite, a Kitchener-Waterloo-based advanced materials startup, has secured a $4.6 million CAD grant from the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) to scale its technology that aims to make paper perform like plastic. By leveraging nanotechnology, Nfinite’s proprietary process coats paper with a thin film that extends its shelf life while maintaining compostability and recyclability. This funding will support the commercialization of Nfinite’s platform, enabling the startup to collaborate with partners such as Amcor, PepsiCo, and Unilever, and establish a pilot manufacturing facility. Nfinite’s CEO, Miguel Galvez, emphasizes the importance of this grant in bridging the gap between pilot and full-scale manufacturing. The startup, founded in 2021 by University of Waterloo associate professor Kevin Musselman and his graduate students, plans to raise a Series A round after proving the scalability of its technology.
