News Summary

Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, announced that his wallpaper app, Panels, will shut down on December 31, 2025. Launched in September 2024, the app struggled to maintain its initial success, despite reaching the top of app store charts and accumulating about 900,000 downloads. Brownlee cited challenges in creating a paying market for wallpapers, changes in the development team, and sustainability issues as reasons for the closure. After the shutdown, all user data will be deleted, and the app’s code will be made open source for other developers. Users with active annual subscriptions will be refunded.
