Microsoft Reduces AI Sales Targets Amid Unmet Quotas
News Summary
Microsoft has decided to lower its AI sales growth targets after a significant number of its salespeople failed to meet their quotas in the last fiscal year. This adjustment affects Microsoft’s AI agent products, which are specialized implementations of AI designed to perform complex tasks autonomously. Despite Microsoft’s ambitious goals and the introduction of new features at various conferences, including the Build and Ignite conferences, the anticipated growth in AI sales has not materialized as expected. A US Azure sales unit had initially set a target to increase customer spending on its Foundry product by 50%, but less than 20% of salespeople achieved this goal. Consequently, Microsoft has reduced the growth targets to around 25% for the current fiscal year. Another Azure unit also witnessed most of its sales team missing a target to double sales, prompting a similar reduction in their quotas.
