HP Acquires Humane’s Assets, AI Pin Discontinued
News Summary
Humane, a hardware startup founded by ex-Apple employees Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, has sold most of its assets to HP for $116 million. This acquisition marks the end of Humane’s AI Pin, a device initially launched as a smartphone alternative. The AI Pin, priced at $499, will cease to function by February 28, 2025, as it will no longer connect to Humane’s servers. Customers have been advised to transfer their data to external devices. HP plans to integrate Humane’s engineers and product managers into a new AI innovation lab, HP IQ, and will explore utilizing Humane’s CosmOS AI operating system across its product lines. Despite raising over $230 million, Humane faced challenges with the AI Pin, including returns surpassing sales and safety concerns over its charging case, ultimately leading to its discontinuation.
