Claude’s Consumer Growth Surges Post-Pentagon Deal Fallout

Global

News Summary

Anthropic, the company behind the AI model Claude, has witnessed a significant surge in consumer growth following its fallout with the Pentagon. The company’s CEO, Dario Amodei, refused to allow the U.S. government to use its AI systems for mass surveillance or autonomous weapons, positioning Anthropic as a supply-chain risk. This decision, however, has led to a substantial increase in the app’s popularity among consumers. According to Appfigures, Claude’s mobile app daily downloads in the U.S. have surpassed those of ChatGPT, with 149,000 downloads compared to ChatGPT’s 124,000 as of March 2. Additionally, Similarweb reports that Claude’s daily active users on iOS and Android devices reached 11.3 million, up 183% since the start of the year. Claude’s growth has placed it ahead of other AI apps in daily active users, although ChatGPT still leads the market with 250.5 million daily active users. The app has also seen a 43% month-over-month increase in web traffic in February, with a 297.7% increase year-over-year. Claude is currently the No. 1 app on the U.S. App Store and in 15 other countries, including Canada and the U.K., with over 1 million sign-ups per day.
