Canadian Startups Secure Funding for Carbon Capture Technologies
News Summary
The Canadian government has announced over $21.5 million in funding for carbon capture and storage technologies in Alberta, with startup OCCAM’s Technologies being one of the recipients. The federal support, through Natural Resources Canada’s Energy Innovation Program, aims to advance carbon capture projects. OCCAM’s Technologies, based in Nisku, Alberta, received $2 million to develop modified diesel engines that capture CO2 emissions before they are released into the atmosphere. This funding is part of a broader $319-million commitment towards carbon capture research announced in Budget 2021. Other recipients include Enbridge, Enhance Energy, OptiSeis Solutions, and Bow Valley Technologies. OCCAM’s Technologies focuses on engines emitting between five and 30 tonnes of CO2 per day and aims to capture at least 90% of emissions. The startup closed its first funding round with $350,000 by partnering with Startup TNT. The initiative is part of a larger effort to position Canada as a leader in carbon management and reduction technologies.
