Canadian Entrepreneurs Remain Optimistic Despite Economic Challenges
News Summary
A new report from the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) reveals that Canadian entrepreneurs are increasingly optimistic about the economy, even amidst ongoing trade tensions and economic challenges. The BDC’s State of Entrepreneurship 2025 report highlights that 45% of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) felt confident in the third quarter of the year, up from 33% in the second quarter. This rise in confidence is attributed to SMBs adapting to the new trade environment by implementing measures to increase productivity, such as switching suppliers, exploring new markets, and adopting technologies like artificial intelligence. Despite 55% of surveyed entrepreneurs doubting that economic conditions will improve soon, over half expect moderate or strong growth this year. However, the pressure of economic uncertainties has led to 54% experiencing emotional or mental exhaustion, although 92% would choose entrepreneurship again, showcasing their resilience. BDC also highlights ongoing challenges, including cost pressures and declining demand, but notes SMBs’ continued investment in growth projects, albeit at reduced levels.
