Canada Boosts Quantum Sector with Federal Funding
News Summary
Canada’s quantum sector has received a significant boost with nearly $80 million in federal funding allocated to over 100 projects. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is providing $74 million in grants to support 107 quantum science research projects, which are expected to train more than 500 graduates and postdoctoral fellows. These initiatives align with Canada’s National Quantum Strategy and aim to foster international collaborations with agencies in France and the United States. Additionally, the federally funded Digital Innovation Cluster (DIGITAL) is investing $4.7 million into three commercialization projects led by Verge Ag, Quantum Bridge Technologies, and Xanadu, which are further supported by $7.3 million from private partners. These projects include advancements in agricultural operations, quantum-safe cryptography, and open-source quantum technology exploration. The funding endeavors to solidify Canada’s leadership in quantum science and technology.
