Calgary’s Energy Transition Centre Expands with $10 Million Investment
News Summary
Calgary’s Energy Transition Centre (ETC) Foundation is set for a significant expansion with a $10 million investment from various economic development agencies, including the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF), PrairiesCan, Alberta Innovates, CIBC, Avatar Innovations, and the Pathways Alliance. This investment aims to enhance the local energy innovation ecosystem by providing a 17,000-square-foot workspace in downtown Calgary for collaboration among low-emission energy startups, ecosystem partners, and investors. The expansion will offer structured educational courses, industry workshops, and hands-on training for graduate students and professionals. OCIF and PrairiesCan contributed $2 million and $1.5 million, respectively, to the project. The ETC has supported over 60 startups, raising more than $500 million in venture capital over the past three years. This development aligns with Calgary’s goal of becoming a major tech hub in Canada.
