Aurora Innovation Expands Driverless Trucking Operations Amid Co-Founder Resignation
News Summary
Aurora Innovation, an autonomous vehicle technology company, is set to expand its driverless trucking operations by adding night driving and new routes. In the second half of 2025, the company plans to operate fully driverless trucks at night and during adverse weather conditions. The expansion includes routes beyond Dallas to Houston, El Paso, and Phoenix. Aurora has already completed over 4,000 miles with a single self-driving truck without a driver, operating for launch customers Hirschbach Motor Lines and Uber Freight. As part of its growth strategy, Aurora plans to own, operate, maintain, and insure its trucks, available on the Uber Freight network, before transitioning to a driver-as-a-service model by 2027. The announcement coincides with the resignation of co-founder and chief product officer Sterling Anderson. Despite the leadership change, Aurora continues to focus on achieving high gross margins and has reported a 22% increase in pilot revenue, with expectations of modest revenue growth in 2025.
