AI Dominates Latest Google for Startups Accelerator Cohort
News Summary
The sixth Canadian edition of the Google for Startups Accelerator has selected 14 startups, all focused on artificial intelligence (AI), marking a significant shift towards AI-centric development. This cohort, diverse in its verticals including workplace management, healthtech, and fintech, is the first to consist entirely of AI-native or AI-enabled startups. Iran Karimian, head of accelerator and startup ecosystem at Google Canada, emphasized the importance of AI and machine learning in the selection process. Notable participants include Montréal-based companies, a city known for strong ties to the Canadian AI research community. Among them, FLiiP, a gym management software startup, plans to integrate AI features following its recent $4.4-million seed round. Kitchener–Waterloo-based ConeLabs will enhance its AI-powered building inspection capabilities, while Toronto-based Quanto aims to focus on compliance and security for its automated bookkeeping platform. The program, which does not provide equity funding, offers mentorship and technical expertise from Google, along with access to Google Cloud credits, facilitating startups to scale and innovate with AI.
