Rogers Expands 5G Service in Toronto Subway
News Summary
Rogers Communications Inc. has announced the expansion of its 5G service to more sections of Toronto’s subway system. This development is part of Rogers’ ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity for commuters by providing mobile voice, data, and 911 services across the entire subway network. The initiative began in 2023 when Rogers took over the existing network from BAI Canada, which had previously implemented a 3G and 4G system. The latest expansion sees service extended between Kipling and Islington stations, as well as between Keele and Dundas West stations. Rogers aims to cover 80% of the subway tunnels by the end of the year, with full coverage of all 75 stations and tunnels expected by the end of next year. The expansion project is coordinated with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and involves construction during non-peak hours to minimize disruption.
