Flatpay Joins the European Fintech Unicorn Club
News Summary
Danish startup Flatpay has reached a significant milestone by joining the ranks of European fintech unicorns, now valued at €1.5 billion ($1.75 billion). Specializing in card payments for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), Flatpay has expanded its customer base exponentially, growing from 7,000 customers in April 2024 to 60,000 currently. The company offers a flat transaction rate for its card terminals and point-of-sales systems, targeting a segment that constitutes 99% of European businesses. Despite being unprofitable, Flatpay has raised €145 million in its latest funding round to support its ambitious growth plans, aiming to increase its annual recurring revenue (ARR) by 300% by the end of 2026. The startup is also planning to expand into new markets and double its workforce by next year. Key investors include AVP Growth, Smash Capital, and Dawn Capital. Flatpay’s strategy involves a hands-on approach to customer acquisition, focusing on simplicity and readiness, which has proven attractive to investors even in a tech-driven investment landscape.
