News Summary
Google has announced a strategic partnership with Reliance Industries, led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, to offer free access to its AI Pro subscription to millions of Jio users in India. This collaboration aims to strengthen Google’s AI presence in the Indian market by providing the AI Pro plan free for 18 months to eligible Jio users, initially targeting those aged 18 to 25 before expanding nationwide. The partnership includes access to Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro model via the Gemini app and offers enhanced capabilities for generating AI images and videos, expanded use of Notebook LM for research, and 2 TB of cloud storage across Google Photos, Gmail, Drive, and WhatsApp backups. Valued at ₹35,100 (around $396), the initiative is part of Reliance’s ‘AI for All’ vision and reflects the growing interest of global tech firms in India as a key market for AI innovation. Reliance Intelligence, a subsidiary of Reliance, will serve as a strategic partner for Google Cloud, aiding in the expansion of AI solutions across Indian enterprises. This initiative aligns with similar efforts by other AI leaders like OpenAI to capture the burgeoning Indian market.
