News Summary

Synology has reversed its previous policy requiring the use of only Synology-branded drives for its NAS models, following backlash from users. This decision allows for the use of third-party and certified HDDs and SSDs, restoring flexibility for both home and business users. The original policy had been criticized for being a revenue-driven move, potentially exploiting consumers by mandating expensive custom drives. While Synology had claimed benefits from their validated drives, the reversal is seen as a positive step towards consumer choice.
