Saskatchewan’s Project Aurora Advances with Critical Minerals Support
News Summary
The Government of Saskatchewan is advancing its critical minerals sector by supporting EMP Metals Corp.’s Project Aurora, a lithium refining demonstration plant in southeast Saskatchewan. Through the Critical Minerals Innovation Incentive (SCMII), the project aims to develop a small-scale lithium refining facility to innovate and establish a model for larger commercial-scale production. EMP Metals Corp. has partnered with Saltworks Technologies Inc. for the design and construction of the plant. The initiative has secured necessary permits from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources and the Rural Municipality of Tecumseh No. 65. The SCMII provides tax credits to encourage investment in innovation, leading to improved recovery and environmental outcomes. EMP Metals has also secured $4.27 million in tax credits under the program, reinforcing Saskatchewan’s role as a reliable supplier of critical minerals.
