Canadian Defence Tech Startups Secure NATO Funding
News Summary
Two Canadian companies, Reaction Dynamics and Tactiql, have been selected for the second phase of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), receiving 300,000 euros each. Reaction Dynamics, based in Longueuil, Quebec, focuses on environmentally friendly rocket engines and launch vehicles, while Ottawa-based Tactiql, founded in 2023 by Canadian Armed Forces veteran Michael Nelson, develops software for intelligence and surveillance data. Both companies are part of a broader trend of increased investment in defence tech, with the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) planning more aggressive funding in this sector. Prime Minister Mark Carney has also pledged to increase national defence spending by 2035. The accelerator aims to support dual-use technologies with military and civilian applications across NATO countries.
