Ontario Premier Doug Ford has officially cancelled the province’s $100 million contract with Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink. This decision follows Ford’s earlier warning after the United States proposed tariffs on Canadian goods. The contract was initially established to provide high-speed internet to rural and remote areas of Ontario by June 2025. As part of the cancellation, Ontario has paid an undisclosed break fee to Starlink. The move is a response to US tariff actions and reflects Ontario’s strategy to seek alternative solutions for stable internet access across the province. The cancellation is rooted in the principle of not supporting economic attacks on Canada, as stated by Ford. The Ontario government had considered legislation to indemnify itself against potential legal actions from SpaceX, Starlink’s parent company.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
