Google has announced a global commercial partnership and investment in Milan-based startup Energy Dome, which specializes in long-duration energy storage (LDES) technology using carbon dioxide batteries. This partnership marks Google’s first investment in LDES technology, aiming to enhance the storage and dispatch of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power. Energy Dome’s CO2 batteries can store and dispatch energy for 8 to 24 hours, surpassing the four-hour limit of traditional lithium-ion batteries. The technology involves compressing carbon dioxide gas into liquid using excess renewable energy, which can then be expanded back into gas to generate power when needed. Google believes this technology can help achieve its goal of operating on renewable energy 24\/7 by 2030, as it can be commercialized faster and at lower costs than other clean tech investments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
