General Motors (GM) is partnering with Redwood Materials to repurpose new and old electric vehicle (EV) batteries for stationary energy storage. This collaboration expands on their existing agreement, with GM supplying both used and new batteries to Redwood. These reconditioned battery packs are used to create large-scale energy storage systems, such as a 12-megawatt microgrid at Redwood’s Nevada headquarters, supporting a nearby data center. The initiative is part of Redwood’s energy storage division, launched in June, which focuses on grid-scale storage solutions.
