President Donald Trump announced plans to increase tariffs on Canadian goods from 25% to 35%, intensifying tensions between the two nations. The tariff hike aims to pressure Canada to address fentanyl smuggling, although Canadian trafficking is relatively low. This move further complicates trade relations, following Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on US products. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney remains committed to negotiating a new trade framework with the US while strengthening ties with the EU and UK. The tariff escalation is expected to impact both countries’ economies, with investors expressing concern over the potential consequences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
