Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has received a permit to operate 15 methane gas generators at its data center in Memphis, Tennessee. The decision, made by the Shelby County Health Department, has led to significant community and environmental opposition due to pollution concerns. Local environmental groups and residents argue that the generators contribute to air pollution, affecting predominantly Black neighborhoods nearby. The Southern Environmental Law Center and the NAACP have raised concerns about the health risks associated with the emissions from these generators, including nitrogen oxides and formaldehyde. Despite xAI’s claims of using advanced emissions control technology, critics argue that the generators pose a significant environmental and health threat to the already overburdened community. The NAACP has initiated a lawsuit against xAI, alleging violations of the Clean Air Act.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
