Airloom Energy, a wind power startup backed by Bill Gates, has begun construction on its first pilot wind power plant near Laramie, Wyoming. The company aims to revolutionize wind energy with a system that uses a low-profile oval track with short blade ‘wings’ instead of traditional tall turbines. This innovative approach is targeted at reducing costs and easing deployment. The pilot system is expected to generate 150 kilowatts of electricity and serves as a precursor to commercial-scale 3-megawatt systems planned for deployment by 2027 or 2028. Airloom is focusing its early commercial systems on data centers and military bases, with potential deployment as early as 2027. The unique design allows for additional uses of the land, such as installing solar panels or traditional farming, as the blades are positioned to allow farm equipment to pass underneath.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
