Snap has announced its plans to release a new pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses, known as Specs, in 2026. CEO Evan Spiegel made the announcement during the Augmented World Expo in California, indicating a significant step in Snap’s efforts to enter the consumer AR market. Unlike previous models, these glasses are designed to be smaller and lighter, featuring see-through lenses that display graphics, and are equipped with an AI assistant capable of processing audio and video. The Specs aim to build on the SnapOS developer ecosystem, leveraging AR experiences already developed for Snapchat and Spectacles. As Snap anticipates competition from major players like Meta and Google, it remains to be seen how Specs will be priced and marketed. The company is also enhancing its SnapOS platform to support multimodal AI models, highlighting the integration of advanced AI tools in its AR offerings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
