Venture capitalist Mary Meeker has released a comprehensive 340-page report titled ‘Trends \u2014 Artificial Intelligence,’ which highlights the unprecedented speed of AI development, adoption, spending, and usage compared to previous tech revolutions. Meeker, the founder and general partner at VC firm Bond and previously known for her annual Internet Trends reports, documents how AI adoption has outpaced any other technology in history. The report notes instances such as ChatGPT reaching 800 million users in just 17 months and the significant drop in inference costs, which have decreased by 99% over two years. The rapid pace at which competitors, including open-source options and Chinese models, are matching each other’s features at lower costs is also emphasized. Despite massive investments and the resulting cash burn, the rapid development of AI is leading to lower costs and faster improvements for users. However, the financial returns from AI investments remain uncertain, with the long-term profitability of current AI companies yet to be determined.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
