Québec’s prominent quantum computing organizations, PINQ² and Sherbrooke-based DistriQ, have established a partnership to enhance the commercialization of quantum computing across Canada. This collaboration aims to foster a ‘robust industrial fabric’ by transitioning companies from conventional computing to a mixed ‘classical-quantum’ model, with applications in cybersecurity, logistics, and materials simulation. By combining their expertise, infrastructures, and networks, DistriQ and PINQ² plan to facilitate collaboration between academic researchers, industries, and technological stakeholders. This initiative is expected to produce measurable results within the next 12 to 18 months by onboarding more companies and launching pilot programs. The partnership comes amidst Canada’s growing quantum industry and its endeavors to maintain competitiveness against US-based companies. The federal government has invested $8.1 million in Sherbrooke’s quantum sector to support organizations like DistriQ and Nord Quantique.
