The Trump administration has issued an order to stop the construction of the Empire Wind project, a major offshore wind initiative intended to power over 500,000 homes in New York. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum directed the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to halt the project for further review, citing rushed approvals by the Biden administration. The Norwegian company Equinor, responsible for the project, has significant investments in the U.S. energy sector, including oil, gas, and renewables. This decision has sent shockwaves through the offshore wind industry, as it contradicts the Biden administration’s push for offshore wind energy as a climate change solution. The move has been criticized by the American Clean Power industry association and Climate Jobs New York, highlighting concerns about job losses and rising energy costs. The halt threatens to undermine the U.S.’s position in the global offshore wind market, which is growing rapidly in countries like the U.K.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
