Zach Yadegari, an 18-year-old co-founder of the successful AI calorie-tracking app Cal AI, is making headlines after being rejected by 15 out of 18 top U.S. universities he applied to, including prestigious Ivy League institutions. Despite having a 4.0 GPA and a successful startup with millions in revenue and over a million downloads, Yadegari’s college essay was criticized for portraying him as someone not genuinely interested in the collegiate experience. His essay reflected his initial reluctance to attend college, influenced by mentors and venture capitalists, and his eventual realization of the importance of college for personal growth and learning from a broader community. While his post on social media sparked widespread debate and drew over 22 million views, he was accepted by Georgia Tech, University of Texas, and University of Miami. The incident has prompted discussions on the college admissions process, with notable figures like Y Combinator’s Garry Tan weighing in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
