Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, is significantly expanding its robotaxi service in the United States. The company has received authorization from the California Public Utilities Commission to extend its driverless taxi services from San Francisco into Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, and other parts of California. This expansion adds 27 square miles of service in Silicon Valley, augmenting its existing 55 square miles in the San Francisco Bay Area. Waymo has been actively growing its geographic footprint and commercial deployments, supported by a $5.6 billion funding round that closed last year, valuing the company at $45 billion. The company has also begun offering rides in Los Angeles, marking its largest expansion to date, and is planning to test in up to 10 new U.S. cities this year, including Las Vegas and San Diego. These moves position Waymo as a leading player in the U.S. robotaxi market, especially following the cessation of Cruise’s commercial operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
