British Columbia is set to implement a new requirement mandating that Canadian-made biofuels must fulfill renewable fuel standards for gasoline and diesel. This initiative, led by Energy Minister Adrian Dix, is aimed at building a cleaner and more self-reliant province by reducing dependence on foreign fuels and responding to the competitive advantage that U.S. biofuel producers have due to substantial subsidies. Starting January 1, 2026, the requirement for a five percent renewable fuel content in gasoline must be met with Canadian-made fuel, with an immediate increase in the minimum renewable requirement for diesel from four percent to eight percent. The changes are part of amendments to regulations under B.C.’s Low Carbon Fuels Act, designed to support Canadian biofuel producers and combat the economic impact of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Stakeholders in the biofuel industry have shown support for these changes, which are expected to restore the value of emissions credits in B.C.’s market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
