The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, has decided to terminate its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. This decision follows Meta’s earlier announcement to end its DEI initiatives, causing concern among CZI employees about the potential impact on their organization. Despite earlier reassurances from CZI leadership that their DEI commitments would remain unchanged, the organization has now confirmed the discontinuation of both internal and external DEI efforts. Additionally, CZI has ceased its social advocacy funding, including grants focused on immigration reform and racial equity, to concentrate more on biology and AI-related work. This shift also involves layoffs within its community team and the cancellation of its Science Diversity Leadership awards program. These changes indicate a significant departure from CZI’s previous focus on promoting diversity and inclusivity in its operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
