The European Union has announced a significant investment initiative, InvestAI, aimed at mobilizing €200 billion to support the development of artificial intelligence across the continent. This initiative was launched during the AI Action Summit in Paris by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The plan includes a €20 billion fund dedicated to establishing AI gigafactories, which will allow for the training of complex AI models. The goal is to enhance Europe’s competitiveness in AI by providing extensive computing infrastructure and fostering open, collaborative innovation among scientists and companies. This public-private partnership will be the largest of its kind, supporting various sectors such as medicine, science, and industrial applications. The funding will be sourced from existing EU programs like the Digital Europe Programme and Horizon Europe, with additional contributions from Member States.
