Canadian premiers, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, have mounted a diplomatic campaign in Washington to counter U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports. These tariffs would add to existing levies, potentially increasing tariffs to 50% on these goods. Ontario Premier Doug Ford and British Columbia Premier David Eby are among those advocating for Canadian interests, urging American business leaders and Republican lawmakers to oppose the tariffs. The situation arises amidst Trump’s broader trade agenda and threats of tariffs linked to various geopolitical issues. Despite ongoing diplomacy, the prospect of tariffs remains, with Canadian leaders emphasizing the importance of the Canada-U.S. trade relationship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
