The construction of EV battery factories in North America has seen significant growth, driven by both private investments and legislative incentives like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). As of 2025, around 34 battery factories are operational or in various stages of development in the U.S., with additional projects in Canada. Major automakers and battery manufacturers such as BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Tesla, and Toyota are heavily investing in battery production to reduce dependency on Chinese imports and meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs). This surge is supported by substantial financial commitments, including a $112 billion investment to boost domestic battery cell and module manufacturing capacity to nearly 1,200 gigawatt-hours annually by 2030. The IRA provides significant incentives, allowing electric vehicles to qualify for a full $7,500 tax credit if they meet specific battery sourcing and manufacturing criteria. The initiative aims to enhance the production of battery components within North America, with gradual increases in required local content percentages over the coming years. Additionally, battery manufacturers like LG Energy Solution, Northvolt, and Panasonic are expanding their operations with new facilities in various U.S. locations, further strengthening the EV supply chain in the region. These developments underscore a major shift towards localized battery production, driven by the need for energy independence and the growth of the electric vehicle market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
