Uber and Waymo have announced a partnership to launch an exclusive robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. Uber users in the city will soon have the option to hail Waymo’s autonomous Jaguar I-PACE vehicles through the Uber app. The partnership marks a significant step in Uber’s efforts to re-enter the autonomous vehicle market, following its previous divestment of its autonomous vehicle subsidiary in 2020. The service is set to begin in early 2025, with an initial smaller fleet that will eventually grow to hundreds of vehicles across Austin and Atlanta. Customers can join an ‘interest list’ via the Uber app to receive updates and increase their chances of being matched with a Waymo vehicle.
