Corporate Canada and various industries are raising alarms over U.S. President Donald Trump’s incoming tariffs, set to impose 25% on Canadian goods and 10% on energy. These tariffs are expected to significantly impact the Canadian economy by increasing business costs and affecting everyday life. Canadian business groups, economists, and associations representing sectors like agriculture, construction, and restaurants warn that the tariffs could lead to economic hardships, including inflation, a weakened Canadian dollar, and potential recessions. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce predicts a rise in household costs by $1,900 annually. Canada plans retaliatory measures, starting with $30 billion in U.S. goods, escalating to $125 billion. This trade dispute could severely affect industries still recovering from the pandemic, urging government support for job retention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
