Whistleblower Frances Haugen has revealed that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has adjusted the company’s content moderation policies in response to influences from Donald Trump’s administration. Haugen claims that Zuckerberg plans to reduce interventions on Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, aligning with Trump’s views on unrestricted social media. This shift includes dropping third-party fact-checkers in the US and making other moderation changes. The oversight board of Meta, led by figures like Michael McConnell and Helle Thorning-Schmidt, has expressed concerns about these changes, emphasizing the need to protect human rights and manage controversial content effectively. Critics fear that these adjustments may lead to increased toxic content, potentially endangering vulnerable groups and fueling hate speech. Maria Ressa, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, warns that these changes pose significant threats to journalism and democracy. Haugen advocates for algorithm transparency and adjustments to improve user safety on Meta platforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
